Wilkins 975XL vs 975XL2 vs 975XL3: Which Kit You Need
Wilkins 975XL and 975XL2 use the same repair-kit family for a given size (Zurn Wilkins parts numbering is the same for both). 975XL3 is a different design—order 975XL3 kits only. Read the tag: if it says 975XL3, do not grab an XL/XL2 rubber kit.
The 30-second rule
- Find the model on the metal tag: 975XL, 975XL2, or 975XL3.
- Note the size (¼" through 2").
- XL or XL2 → use the 975XL / 975XL2 kit for that size band.
XL3 → use the 975XL3 kit for that size.
Lead-free marking (XL2) does not invent a new rubber kit vs 975XL on the sizes we stock—our ¾"–1" Complete Rubber Rebuild product page lists fitment for 975 / 975XL / 975XL2.
975XL / 975XL2 kits (shared)
Shop kits by size:
| Size band | Complete rubber rebuild | Complete internal / total rebuild |
|---|---|---|
| ¼"–½" | RK14-975XLR | RK14-975XLC |
| ¾"–1" | RK34-975XLR | RK34-975XLC |
| 1¼"–2" | RK114-975XLR | RK114-975XLC |
Also useful: rubber with springs — RK14-975XL for ¼"–½", RK34-975XL for ¾"–1" and RK114-975XL for 1¼"–2".
What’s in the rubber kit (as listed on all three size-band pages): both check discs, check O-rings, RV diaphragm, RV disc, RV stem O-ring.
Complete internal parts (1¼"–2" product page): both check poppets, check springs, check seats, RV stem assembly, RV spring, RV seat, and O-rings. The ¼"–½" and ¾"–1" pages describe the kit as the internal parts kit without itemizing it, so call us if you need the contents confirmed for those sizes.
975XL3 kits (separate line)
Do not cross these with XL/XL2 kits:
| Size | Complete rubber rebuild | Complete rebuild |
|---|---|---|
| ½"–¾" | RK34-975XL3R | RK34-975XL3 |
| 1" | RK1-975XL3R | RK1-975XL3 |
| 1¼"–1½" | RK114-975XL3R | RK114-975XL3 |
| 2" | RK2-975XL3R | RK2-975XL3 |
The 1" XL3 rubber kit lists check discs, seat disc, diaphragm, O-rings. The RK1-975XL3 complete kit lists check assemblies, relief valve assembly, RV spring, RV seat, O-rings; the shop titles that page “Complete Relief Valve Rebuild,” but it includes the check assemblies too. For the 1¼"–1½" and 2" complete kits (RK114-975XL3, RK2-975XL3), call us to confirm the contents before you order.
More sizes live in the Repair Parts Finder (Wilkins → size → model).
Rubber vs complete rebuild
- Rubber rebuild — elastomers for a clean annual-test refresh when seats/modules are still good.
- Complete / total rebuild — adds seats, springs, poppets/modules as listed on the product page—use when the device is worn or rubber alone failed.
When the tag is painted over, use Reading the device tag and send us photos. Working on a Watts instead? See Watts 009M2 repair kit: what’s in a complete rubber rebuild.
How to tell XL, XL2 and XL3 apart
The plate is the answer. The model string on a Wilkins (Zurn Wilkins) 975 reads 975XL, 975XL2 or 975XL3, and the last character is the one that matters for parts. If the plate is painted or corroded, clean it and photograph it square-on; do not guess from the body shape, because XL and XL2 look nearly identical and XL3 can still fool you from a distance.
Ordering checklist
- Model from the plate: XL, XL2 or XL3.
- Size from the shutoffs: ¼" through 2".
- Kit type: rubber for a routine refresh, complete when seats, springs or poppets are suspect.
- Confirm on the product page that the size band and model match your device — each XL/XL2 band (¼"–½", ¾"–1", 1¼"–2") covers more than one size.
- Ship or pick up in Rocklin.
What if the plate just says 975?
The ¾"–1" complete rubber rebuild product page lists fitment for 975 / 975XL / 975XL2. If your plate reads plain 975 with no suffix, that is the kit family to start from, and it is worth calling with a photo so we can confirm before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Is the 975XL2 just a lead-free 975XL?
On the sizes we stock, the lead-free marking does not change the rubber kit; the ¾"–1" complete rubber rebuild page lists fitment for 975, 975XL and 975XL2 together.
Will an XL3 kit fit an XL2, or the other way round?
No. The XL3 is a different design with its own part numbers. Match the plate exactly.
Rubber or complete rebuild?
Rubber for an annual-test refresh when the seats and modules are still good. Complete when the device is worn, was freeze-damaged, or a rubber kit alone did not bring it back.
What sizes do the kits cover?
XL/XL2 kits come in ¼"–½", ¾"–1" and 1¼"–2" bands. XL3 kits are listed in ½"–¾", 1", 1¼"–1½" and 2".
